“Now you’re sweet… then you’re cold, sometimes you scream, then you smile… it’s confusing.”

I went down a million stairs, arm in arm with you

I went down a million stairs, at least, arm in arm with you.
And now that you are gone, I feel emptiness with each step I take.
Our long journey was so brief, really.
Mine still goes on, but I don’t need
any more connections, reservations,
traps, nor the scorn of those who think
reality is just what we see.
I went down a million stairs, at least, arm in arm with you,
and not because four eyes see better than two.
I did it because I knew that, among the two of us,
the only true eyes, although really blurred,
were yours.
Eugenio Montale, “Ho sceso, dandoti il braccio, almeno un milione di scale”
Translation by Elen Chase
So… Happy Valentine’s Day! I hoped I could write a Valentine’s short story, but I ran out of time, so in the end I decided to translate this beautiful poem by Eugenio Montale.
What I like the most about this poem is the way it describes the most pure, honest love without even mentioning it.
That’s the love I wish us all to experience 🙂

I wish I could quit you

The first weekly quote of the new season is from a book that I read when I was a teenager and that still gets under my skin, after so many years. I have a bit of a thing for tragic romances, unrequited loves, relationships endangered by secrets and heartbreaking breakups.

Brokeback Mountain is all of this and so much more.

“You got no fuckin idea how bad it gets. I’m not you. I can’t make it on a couple high-altitude fucks once or twice a year. You’re too much for me, Ennis, you son of a whoreson bitch. I wish I knew how to quit you.”

Annie Proulx, Brokeback Mountain
